About Me

My passion for music began when I first started clarinet lessons at age 10. Immediately I enjoyed creating music and since then have learned both piano and saxophone. I have studied clarinet with Anne Perret, Claire King and Roger Heaton who encouraged me in orchestras, throughout University and beginning a teaching practice. The experience of various teachers have influenced my teaching style and initiated my passion for music teaching.

My musical career has developed throughout school, college and university.  My qualifications to date include: 1st Class BA (Hons) Music;diploma in Music Performance on the Clarinet; grade 8 ABRSM on clarinet, saxophone and piano; music GCSE; music A-Level; music theory qualifications.  The course I studied at Bath Spa University enabled me to focus on performance, musicology, music psychology and many aspects of teaching, both instrumental and in the classroom.  I am continuing my education with a music PGCE to teach music to secondary school children.  I also teach private instrumental lessons from my home in Bristol.

Performing is something I have grown to enjoy, and throughout university my performance has excelled.  My solo clarinet repertoire is vast, including works from both the classical and romantic era, and 20th century repertoire is something that I am more frequently playing.   My study of performance has broadened my approach to performing, enhanced my playing and increased my confidence - something which I am to impart to my pupils.

At university, I played 1st clarinet in the orchestra, wind band, clarinet ensemble, musical theatre and opera modules.  Performing as part of an ensemble is an area of my performance that has vastly improved throughout my education at university.  I aim to encourage my pupils to attend ensembles, as they are essential to build confidence, increase musical experience and improve sight reading skills.
